What would you do?

For the last week or so, Caden has been having a hard time with the dark. He has never had a night light on in his room and the door is shut when he goes to bed. But somehow, he's discovered a fear of the dark. I'll put him in his bed for night and he'll say 'no dark mommy, no dark'.
Last night was the worst. He was crying...hard. He called me in to his room numerous times. Now with that said, let me also tell you that I don't do night lights. I do not like it when kids are so reliant on a night light that you have to pack the stupid thing when you go away for night. I've babysat kids like this and I don't like it. Just like he doesn't have any music or a fan or anything. He falls asleep hearing the noises of me cleaning up, or watching t.v.
Any ideas? I know one option is to leave the bathroom light on or something like that. But has anyone else encountered this problem with your kids? And what did you do? Will it pass? I feel bad for him, but I don't want to start something to fix it for now, if he'll get over it.

Jolee started to get scared of the dark and the only thing that really helped her is remembering that Jesus will help her and there is nothing to be scared about. If she does get scared, we've taught her to say three simple words: "Jesus, help me." The led light in her room or lights on in the hallway or bathroom have never been as effective for her mind as those simple words.

Honestly I would just get him a night light. He's not going to need it when he's 10, and I don't see the point in him being afraid.

Rowan has a night light, Bria doesn't need one. Though they share a room now. I have always told Bria that dark is the best for sleeping, and God made it dark so we could have a better rest. She gets that, and it isn't a problem. But once they have a fear, it can be really hard.

We put an alarm clock in Andrew's room. It has green lights instead of red. The green gives off more light. Something to try instead of a night light.

I agree with Stacey. My boys have had night lights from birth. They have never asked to take it along, and have never asked for it when they've slept somewhere else. For me, this wouldn't be a battle I'd chose to fight. My sleep is way too important!
